SEGA’s 60th anniversary website is having a weeklong celebration of Sonic this week, and they’re starting things off with some Sonic avatars and wallpapers. The Critics Choice Association announced their nominees for their first ever Super Awards, which included nominations of Paramount’s Sonic the Hedgehog for Best Superhero Movie, Jim Carrey and Ben Scwartz for Best Actor in a Superhero Movie, and Jim Carrey for Best Villain in a Movie. IDW have released more upcoming goodies, and Sonic has a couple of new titles announced! Firstly, opening out next year, Sonic the Hedgehog #37 has a solicit for a brand new story. After resolving the problem in Eggman’s base, Tangle is on a mission to initiate new girl Belle into the restoration team. But when Sonic, Tails and Amy investigate a mysterious tower that seems to have come from nowhere, they may be put through trials much sooner than they thought! This is “Test Run”.

In addition, there’s something coming for both established IDW Sonic fans and those who want a convenient way of getting into the series. Sonic the Hedgehog is joining its collection line with The IDW Collection: Sonic the Hedgehog Volume 1.
This book will collect issues 1 – 12 in an oversized hardcover format, perfect for any library! Future volumes will encompass the annuals and miniseries as well, presenting them in the most ideal reading order. As of writing, the book is slated for release June 8th 2021, so it’s going to be a while before it hits the shelves.

Square Enix released Balan Wonderworld’s opening CG movie today, and it is certainly…something. Check it out below:
Although the game play is clearly distinct from Yuji Naka and Naoto Oshima’s past work, Balan has definitely been giving off some major NiGHTS into Dreams vibes, and this opening just adds to that.

Recently, Sony announced that it was making big changes to its PlayStation Store. From Monday 19 October, you will no longer be able to purchase PS3, PSP or PS Vita games from a desktop web browser, and from 28 October on mobile browser. SEGA’s 60 years old this year, in case you weren’t aware! SEGA’s been celebrating this with all sorts stuff, including their current Steam sale and Sonic 2 giveaway. But they aren’t stopping there: starting today, SEGA is running a 60 day long celebration. During this celebration, they will be:

And “more” according to their tweet announcing this whole thing. As of today, SEGA is giving away free Steam copies of the Sonic Team classic NiGHTS into Dreams to anyone that signs up at their 60th anniversary website, here.
The website will provide free wallpapers, avatars and early notification of prize giveaways to anyone who signs up. If you want the free NiGHTS code, don’t dawdle, because they will only be provided for ”as long as codes last.”

Being a Sonic fan in a Nintendo world is tough. Especially in Nintendo Switch brawler Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, where playing as the blue blur has always felt a little… held back. Well, today brings a new update to the fighting party game – introducing new character Steve from Minecraft as well as improving Sonic’s combat statistics!

Unused concept art can often give us interesting glimpses into what could have been. New concept art for the Sonic movie by artist Bayard Wu shows a variety of alternate takes for Sonic’s surrogate mom, Longclaw, as well as alternative designs for the film’s cut lizard villain. According to Wu, the lizard’s name was “Rava.” We reported on Rava earlier this year, when concept art done by other artists was released.
