If you want to know what’s happening in the world of Sonic the Hedgehog, then you’re in the right place! The Sonic Stadium’s News section is your first stop for all the latest information. Whether it’s news about video games, comics, TV shows or even movies, we have you covered!
Forgive the lateness of our podcast as we recorded this one a few weeks ago, but that doesn’t mean it’s not chock full of Sonic-ey goodness! In this episode we discuss Jason’s trip to E3, the fan revival of Sonic Runners, Sonic Revolution 2019, Funko Pop Sonic cereal, an unofficial Sonic book that uses fanmade images and much, much more. Because hey, who needs copyrights when you can just slap a bunch of images together, right?
Special Note: We used the cover from the plagiarized Carlton Sonic book for this month’s podcast image. That render on that plagiarized book was created by Deviant Art user FinnAkira, and you can find it here.

Yes, it’s that time of year again – Sonic the Hedgehog officially turns 28 years old on this day, 23rd June 2019. I mean, he doesn’t -really- turn 28 because Sonic is not real (sorry), but today was the day, 28 years ago, that the original Sonic the Hedgehog game was released on Sega Mega Drive/Genesis. So, that makes Sonic (and Dr. Eggman, technically) the same age. Continue reading Happy Birthday Sonic the Hedgehog! 28 Years Old Today!

Ah, Sonic Runners. We really did like you, you know. And then, almost as soon as you were released (well, about a year after the initial launch in 2015 actually), SEGA killed you off. So we’re pretty excited to hear that a bunch of mobile-loving fans have taken it upon themselves to bring you back to life again. That’s pretty awesome! When you think of Sonic the Hedgehog’s iconic design, two words usually come to mind: cute and cool. While Sonic’s known as being the cool dude with a ‘tude, in Japan they really focused on how adorable the little blue hedgehog can be. Well, that tradition continues in full force with these new digital LINE stickers, which are so adorable that I’ve become tempted to watch the opening to Shadow the Hedgehog to even things out.

Have you ever baked a pizza, taken it out of the oven, and imagined that Sonic the Hedgehog was slicing it for you? I don’t mean like an underpaid Pizza Hut employee, I mean actually curling into his legendary spin attack and rationing out that cheesy goodness? …no? Just me? Well, maybe these fantasies will no longer be so niche, as SEGA has catered to the food utensil market with their upcoming Sonic-themed Pizza Cutter!

In a recent interview with Japanese gaming website 4Gamer, Takashi Iizuka, the head of Sonic Team, answered some questions regarding Sonic’s future. The following excerpts from that interview were translated by Nintendo Everything.
When asked about Sonic’s upcoming 30th anniversary in 2021, Iizuka said that “planning would need to begin now,” and that he’d “really like for us to take on some sort of new challenge for it though.”
On the subject of Sonic in eSports, Iizuka was ambivalent, saying that because Sonic is primarily an action platformer, going into eSports “might not be feasible.” However, he did express a willingness to take on new genre challenges, bringing up the recently released Team Sonic Racing as an example. He indicated that “there’s always the chance that something suited to eSports might come out of those different projects.” The Sonic franchise is no stranger to spin-offs in other genres, so it would appear that an eSports focused Sonic spin-off is at least a possibility, albeit a remote one.
While this likely has nothing to do with Sonic’s still-far-off 30th anniversary, Iizuka did confirm that a new 3D Sonic title was in development earlier this year at SXSW’s Sonic panel.

Every year, a SEGA property is usually featured prominently on the E3 badge. Last year was Valkyria Chronicles 4 and Persona 5: Dancing in Starlight. This year, it’s Mario & Sonic at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games and the SEGA Genesis Mini. Our own Jason Berry sent us some pictures, take a look!
