Sonic Jumping Tour & Sonic Star Race Images Surface

Just over two years ago we brought you news that Sega was opening a new Joypolis theme park in China, along with it were several new Sonic Rides and attractions, whilst a few images were released, some key details were missing, such as what you actually did on the ride and in the case of Sonic Jump Adventure, what you actually watched on the screen.

Since that time; virtually no information about the attractions has surfaced, no video, photos, visitor descriptions of any kind.

Well we can now share with you a few details, Joypolis China has redesigned their website and along with it comes several new photos and descriptions of some of the rides.

Sonic Star Race looks like a bonkers cross between the dodgems section in Twinkle Park and All Stars Racing, but there’s actually a few details here you might miss.

See that screen on the left side? That’s a scoreboard! As you drive around the arena, you get points by driving over the different coloured lights on the floor. Not sure if you get points for using a super horn at other drivers though.

Next up is the most interesting one.The literal translation of this ride was ‘Sonic Jumping Adventure’ but now we finally know it’s actual title ‘Sonic Jumping Tour’. No additional details were given as to what you actually do on this ride, but we do finally get to see part of it and… boy it looks odd. There is a slightly different image available in the gallery, but if you can figure out what’s going on, be sure to let me know in the comments.

It has been revealed at IDW’s Sonic Comic Town Hall panel (live-streamed by TSSZ), that Ian Flynn will be the lead writer. Fans of the later Archie Sonic comics will be pleased to see Flynn return to his role as creator of Sonic comic story lines.

While details on the comic from the panel has been sparse so far, it has been announced that the new Sonic comic will be in its own continuity and will start with a new number one with “brand new stories.” The comic will launch April 4th, 2018 with the first four issues released on a weekly basis, continuing on monthly.

While Flynn’s involvement as lead writer has been confirmed, no other names have been mentioned at the time of this writing.

F4F Are Bringing The Boom8 Sonic Figures to the West!

Earlier this year, GNFToyz, a South Korean company released a number of really awesome Sonic figures and have since teased an expansion of the range… Just one tiny problem; these were a retail exclusive to a South Korean store and unless you lived in South Korea it was exceptionally difficult to get your hands on these. Well… that’s not true, you could get them if were willing to pay 3-4 times the RRP on ebay, no really they were being re-sold for that amount!

Well it looks like they may have found a western distributor. A photo taken by Toyark of the First4Figures New York Comic Con booth appears to confirm that F4F are going to be distributing them worldwide!

Based on the photos taken, it looks as if F4F have begun a partnership with GNFT and series 1 of the figures will be available ‘soon’.

Hopefully we won’t have to pay 3-4 times the RRP to get our paws on this one!

Keep Checking TSS for more updates as we get them.

IDW Sonic Comic Teaser Features Tyson Hesse Artwork

News hot off the floor at this year’s New York Comic Con has revealed images of a flyer advertising IDW’s highly anticipated Sonic the Hedgehog comic, the successor to the long-running Archie series, featuring artwork by the multi-talented artist and animator Tyson Hesse (see below!).

The flyer contains the following message on it’s reverse:

Thank you for joining us for the first ever IDW/Sonic Town Hall!

IDW and SEGA are proud to bring you an all-new chapter of Sonic the Hedgehog comics! After more than 25 years, Sonic’s adventures have captured the imaginations of countless fans, and have inspired one of the most passionate fan bases in the world. We look forward to bringing you brand-new stories, featuring characters old and new, that continue this proud legacy of the fastest comics around!

SPEEDING YOUR WAY APRIL 2018!

Undoubtedly fans will be excited to see Hesse return to Sonic following the success of his involvement in the Archie comics and Sonic Mania, and will likely lead to speculation as to which names from the old guard of Sonic comics might be making a return via the IDW publication. More information is likely to come to light over the course of the comic con and the panel on the 8th of October, and as always TSS will keep you up to date with information as it is revealed!

Many thanks to Kevin Sanchez and Linkabel via Twitter for the images!

IDW Sonic Comic Set To Start April 2018

With New York Comic Con set to begin very soon, we have our first piece of news regarding the highly anticipated Sonic Comic that they will be putting out. According to the signage on their booth, the comic will be starting in April 2018.

This means that while it will be a six-month wait for the comic to come out, we should get the official solicit out in January, as per the usual comic cycle. That’s assuming they don’t give some details on the first comic sooner than that, which can happen for new series.

This is only a glimpse at what IDW have to announce for the Sonic Comic at NYCC though. They’re set to have a panel on October 8th that will reveal much more, so there’s that to look forward to. We will report any news that comes out of there, and any other Sonic comic news in the meantime.

Chemical Plant Zone Confirmed for Sonic Forces

Sega revealed today that another old stage would be returning for Sonic Forces. This time the Chemical Plant is making an icy return.

Hinted at previously through in-game dialogue this is the first time we’ve seen the Chemical Plant Zone in Sonic Forces. However, unlike it’s incarnation in Generations and Mania, the Chemical Plant is a little chilly, it’s been frozen over with ice.

So far only screenshots showing the Avatar have been made available. But given the track history with Forces so far, odds are Classic and Modern Sonic will also see action in this stage.

Sonic the Hedgehog Movie To Be Developed by Paramount Pictures

After several months of silence, it has been announced that the long-anticipated Hollywood Sonic the Hedgehog movie will be produced by Paramount Pictures, moving from previous producer Sony Pictures.

Despite the move, many of the staff at Sony who were with the project are sticking with it still. Neal M. Moritz, Tim Miller and Toby Ascher are executive producing, Jeff Fowler is in the director’s seat (making this his directorial debut) and Dmitri Johnson and Dan Jevons are acting as co-producers. It’s still set to be a blend of live action and CG animation.

As of writing, it is unknown whether the movie will still make its current 2019 release date or be pushed back to a later date. We will update you on more movie news as it comes to light.

More Sonic X-Treme Material Released by Lead Artist

In August, we reported the discovery of several models in the portfolio of Sonic X-Treme lead designer Ross Harris, including the previously unknown inclusion of Amy Rose.

Harris has now released some videos on his own channel showing off several of the assets that were seen in the portfolio in action, as well as other concept videos done in Sonic X-Treme’s development. Aside from showing off Sonic animations and Amy run cycles, there’s an early Tails model, several Badniks, logo animations and mock-ups showing off how platforms and pipes would work.

Most notably, Harris himself confirmed that a lot of this work is from the early stages of Sonic X-Treme as opposed to later on (which is when the development trouble really affected a lot of these ideas). It’s really interesting to see what the game might have looked like before the more famous period of the game’s history.

Sega: Sonic Runners is a Failure

Now depending where you sit when it comes to this kind of game, this news will actually not surprise you, or it may take you completely by surprise. Sega considers Sonic Runners a failure, in terms of how much money it’s making. This comes as a bit of a surprise as the game appeared to be profitable and doing rather well.

runnersfailure

Now, in the past, I have been quite vocal regarding my stance on a certain ‘free’ to play mobile game staring Sonic, however, one thing which was hard to deny, is that Sonic Runners was being downloaded, it was being played and people were spending a lot of money on it.

Though at the same time, I’m not that surprised, the game has been heavily criticised for poor technical performance, an intrusive and invasive micro-transaction strategy and in some cases, randomly banning players for utterly no reason. Why would people want to give money to this?

However, another issue which is a little strange is that, according to the report, Sonic Runners on average was making 30 million yen per month, which is around £180,000, that sum is considered a failure? How much money went into developing the game for that sum to be considered a failure?

To put it into perspective, Sega considers games which make 50 million yen, or £300,000 per month to be successful.
